India’s Independence Day is celebrated on August 15th every year to commemorate India’s independence from British rule in 1947. The history of India’s independence struggle dates back to the early 20th century, when Indian leaders began demanding greater autonomy from British colonial rule.
The Indian National Congress, founded in 1885, played a key role in India’s independence struggle. Mahatma Gandhi, one of the most important figures in India’s independence movement, led nonviolent protests against British rule, including the famous Salt March in 1930.
India’s independence was finally achieved on August 15, 1947, when Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of independent India, raised the Indian national flag at the Red Fort in Delhi. The day is now celebrated across India with flag-hoisting ceremonies, parades, and cultural events.
